Difference between 144503 and 144505:
144503 has a split tab which enables it to connect to a 12v (OBDII) and a 24v (heavy duty - usually J1939 protocol) system. 
144505 will only allow connection to a 12v system. 
144505 is more a popular item since most customers are lookng for a standard OBDII cable.
